- Deep in the Tomb of Devonshire a secret door is opened to reveal a dusty lounge with fifteen creepy Brittle-Bone Skeletons and two Ephemeral Apparitions.
- The party closes the secret door to discuss and plan, whilst beyond the door the undead enemies ready their attack.
- The Echoes open the door and quickly realize the undead don’t want to talk.
- Echoes cleverly position themselves, bottle-neck-ing the skeletons and throwing ball bearings where the skeletons must traverse, giving the Echoes a tactical advantage.
- Echoes meticulously dispatch the Brittle-Bone Skeletons who explode into dust causing a variety of complications including sneezing fits, difficult terrain, and visibility issues.
- The Ephemeral Apparitions fly through walls, attack, and then ‘boop’ out of this plane of existence.
- Mic wisely readies his magical dagger to attack the apparations so that he doesn’t miss an opportunity when they appear.
- The battle rages on, Spearbreaker crushing enemies and chucking his hand axe, Stray exploding skeletons with forceful blasts of purple Eldritch energy, Mic slashing left and right, and Emmit attempts to plow through the final skeletons with crossed blades. Emmit was not strong enough, so Spearbreaker after brandishing his Captain Caveman club uses his extraordinary strength to lift Emmit up and push him through the remaining skeletons, leaving dust and debris in their wake.
- With all of the undead finally defeated, the party begins to loot the room. The skeletons, turn out to be adventurers like the Echoes who over the years have failed to retrieve the Chia Suspendio.
- Treasure: a bunch of platinum, gold, silver, journals and letters
- Treasure: An ancient Dwarven songbook titled “Songs of a Distant Past”. One page is bookmarked and highlighted featuring lyrics to a song titled Ole’ Fludguard’s Ballad. Mic translates and reads to the group.
- Treasure: A small compass-shaped object with dials and knobs. Later it is discovered that this is the sacred “Panelio Justemento” which is the control panel which is a critical item needed.
- The Echoes descend downstairs and through a rough-hewn hallway into the actual burial chamber of Count Ludebrass Devonshire.
- Down the hall, Devonshire, who remains to guard the Chia Suspendio stops the party. Devonshire demands several challenges before allowing the party to proceed.
- A Charisma challenge to convince Devonshire that they are serious contenders and can protect the Chia. Emmit uses the charisma-granting cloak and convinces Devonshire the Echoes are legit.
- A Strength challenge to prove their strength in protecting the device. Spearbreaker uses the Captain Caveman Club to bolster his strength and pushes against an unseen force to climb five stairs. Luckily he only has to count to one! “1, 1, 1, 1, 1”.
- A Dexterity challenge to prove we have the speed to react to threats. Mic dodges a web of mechanical spears that lunge at him while climbing the next five stairs.
- A final challenge is to grab a small key from within a carnivorous plant called a Snapstrike Deathbloom. The plant only slowly opens its mouth when there is complete silence and no sudden movements. At first, Stray cleverly uses her Immovable Rod to attempt to keep the mouth of the plant open. However, the plant repositions and closes its mouth. Next, Stray uses a spell and commands the plant to drop the key, which works!
- They unlock and grab the Chia Suspendio which was suspended in the middle of the room by an acid-filled tube/rope.
- During these challenges, Devonshire fills the party in on the tale of Ole’ Fludguard, which is a giant ancient underground mechanism to keep the whole planet stable and from flipping over on its axis. It is also learned that there is a top-secret peaceful metropolis under Ole’ Fludguard and a mystical order called the Polar Wardens that occasionally borrow these devices to adjust and maintain the mechanism. The mechanism can be controlled by a control panel (Panelio Justimento) after the spherical key (Chia Suspendio) is lowered into a hole (The Venterance). The location of the hole as well as other instructions is located on an emerald tablet (Tableta Structorio) which has been lost.
- Party gets the Chia Suspendio, Devonshire is relieved of his duty and passes on.
- The next major step, it is decided, should be to seek out the emerald tablet for instructions on how this all works, and the location of the keyhole. But, how will the party get out of the tomb? And can they make it back to camp before sunset?
